Our Professional Development Opportunity

Our 2023 Professional Development Workshop is currently taking applicants. We had 93 individuals apply for last years opportunity! Please see below if you are interested in applying.

Our FREE program gives teachers the chance to learn how they can incorporate agricultural concepts into their core classes. After attending our program, teachers will know more about the agricultural literacy resources available to them, and they will be able to add to their classroom activities with agriculture based topics, such as Mississippi commodities.

Teachers will receive the benefit of earning two CEU credits for free at the completion of this course.

The Farm to Classroom Professional Development Program is structured as a self-paced online course facilitated through Canvas. Over the four-week course, participants will complete weekly readings and assignments related to agricultural literacy concepts in core subject areas currently being taught. There are no set meeting times for face-to-face instruction over the four-week program. The goal of this program is for participants to learn techniques for incorporating agriculture literacy concepts into their classrooms at a pace that is convenient for them.

This four-week online program will provide:

  1. an introduction to agricultural literacy
  2. strategies for integrating agriculture into the Core "4" subject areas
  3. an overview of pedagogy associated with agricultural education, and
  4. tips on agricultural literacy lesson planning

Some of our past participants have said:

"I truly learned a lot. I think the most valuable information I will take away will be how to incorporate agricultural (topics) into my ELA lesson plans."

"I got a better understanding of adding literacy into my classroom. I also gained several resources that I can use in my classroom to help teach my students."

"The most valuable thing I learned was ways to explain to other teachers how to incorporate ag literacy into their classrooms by reading articles that are agriculture-based and explaining the jobs that are out there and the importance of agriculture in their everyday classrooms."

The priority deadline to apply for the 2023 Professional Development workshop will be Sept. 22nd. However, applications will be accepted until Sept. 29th. The course begins on Monday October 2nd.
